Bengaluru: A 20-day-old baby girl, allegedly abandoned due to a birth defect, was rescued and her parents traced, police said on Sunday.
The Byatarayanapura police said that some residents discovered the baby inside a parked autorickshaw near the Mysuru Road Satellite Bus Stand on April 24. The local police rescued the infant, ensured her safety, and handed her over to child welfare officials.
An investigation was subsequently launched under Bharath S Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Byatarayanapura).
The police began analysing CCTV footage from cameras in the area. After scouring the feed, they spotted a couple lurking near the spot where the baby was found. The footage also showed them carrying the infant before abandoning her.
The couple was traced to Virajpet in Kodagu. Investigations revealed that the baby was abandoned because she had a cleft lip deformity. It was further found that the man was married to another woman and was in a relationship with the baby’s mother.
