More than 20 people were injured after a private bus travelling from Mysuru to Erode fell into a gorge at the 25th hairpin bend near Thimbam in the Sathyamangalam Ghat late on Friday.

The bus, belonging to a private operator, en route from Mysuru to Erode, fell into the gorge at around 8.30 pm on Friday. Initial reports stated that there were 26 passengers on board and nearly all of them have sustained injuries.

A police official in Sathyamangalam told DH that 18 people were brought with injuries to the government hospital in the town. “All are being treated for injuries in the hospital,” he said. Though there were reports that at least a couple of passengers died in the accident, the police did not confirm any casualties.

At least 10 ambulances were rushed to the spot which brought 18 people to Sathyamangalam government hospital. The police said, quoting eyewitnesses, that a few injured were taken away in cars to Karnataka.
