With State government's backing to increase enrollment, 22 Government schools in Udupi district introduced English as medium of instruction.

Six schools in Byndoor Assembly segment, four schools each in Kaup, Karkala, Kundapura and Udupi Assembly constituencies will now have English as a medium of instruction from first standard.

The schools are Government Higher Primary School, Byndoor; Government Higher Primary School Dombe; Government Higher Primary School, Uppunda; Government Higher Primary School, Bidkalakatte; Government Higher Primary School, Vandse; Government Higher Primary School, Nempu; Government Higher Primary School, Kukkehalli; Government Higher Primary School, Kokkarne; Government Model Higher Primary School, Brahmavar; Government Higher Primary School, Padubidri Nadsal, Government Higher Primary School, Rajivnagara, Government Model Higher Primary School, Hiriyadka-Bommarabettu, Government Model Higher Primary School, Volakadu; Higher Primary School, Beejadipadu, Government Higher Primary School, Amasebailu, Government Higher Primary School, Koteshwara; Government Higher Primary School, Tekkatte, Government Higher Primary School, Hebri; Government Higher Primary School, Hosmar Edu; Government Higher Primary School, Muniyalu-Varanga, Government Model Higher Primary School, Pervaje and Government Higher Primary School, Santhekatte.

DDPI Sheshashayana Karinja said; “no new teachers had been recruited for teaching in English medium. Instead, teachers had been identified and imparted training through DIET.” In fact, DDPI had submitted a list of 26 government schools and six Karnataka Public Schools for introducing English as a medium of instruction, to the government. The government had given green signal to 22 schools.

Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT has been asked to prepare handbook, study materials, audio-video kits for the teachers with the helo of Regional Institute of English, South India and Azim Premji Foundation.

Further, the government had given permission to introduce LKG and UKG classes in six Karnataka Public Schools in Udupi district. The guest teachers will be appointed to these preschool education classes, the DDPI added.
