Addressing a press meet, he said rat fever cases have been reported from areas where people have consumed water from the flowing river. The district administration has directed the health and zilla panchayat to provide treatment and supply drinking water to the victims.

He directed the officials to be careful of natural calamities as the region has been receiving heavy rains. The Tahsildars have been directed to open gruel centres covering seven villages coming under the backwater region of Thunga and Bhadra. The PWD and Forest department was directed to trim the branches of those trees which may fall on the moving vehicles.

A sum of Rs 10 lakh has been released to purchase a boat in Sringeri.  A proposal has been sent to the government to rejuveniate 39 tanks in the district. The work will be undertaken by the Zilla Panchayat engineering section, he added.
