Officials on Tuesday seized 26 tonnes of rice, packed in gunny bags, which was being transported to Kasargod in Kerala.

The consignment was seized by officials of the revenue, food and civil supplies departments after being tipped off by a few people.

Tahsildar M Gangappa and C D Geetha, deputy director of the food and civil supplies department, and their staff confirmed that the rice was meant for the 'Anna Bhagya' scheme. The lorry in which the rice was being transported has been seized.

Congress workers who gathered at the spot insisted that the police should not register a case against those responsible.

On the other hand, BJP workers submitted a memorandum to the tahsildar, seeking action those who were transporting the rice.
