Mangaluru: Three people were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of Abdul Rehman and the attack on one called Qalandar Shafi in Bantwal.

Deepak (21) from Kuriyala village in Bantwal and Prithviraj (21) and Chintan (19) from Ammunje village, Bantwal are the accused.

The accused were arrested at Kanapady in Kallige village of Bantwal. Cases have been registered against the accused under columns 191(1), 191 (2), 191 (3), 118 (1), 109, 103 and 190 of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) 2023.

Abdul Rehman was murdered in Irakodi of Kuriyala village of Bantwal on May 27.

DK district Superintendent of Police Yatish N said that Deepak, the accused, had contacted Abdul Rehman through phone, asking the latter to immediately supply one load of sand for emergency work on a building. When Rehman was unloading the sand from the pickup vehicle, he was attacked by the two assailants who had arrived on a motorbike. The three arrested were directly involved in the murder.

Two other accused are still at large, and a search operation is on, the SP added.

Five special teams were formed to trace the accused, under the leadership of Bantwal DySP Vijayprasad, the investigating officer.
