Kalyan: In a major swoop, three people including two from Karnataka were arrested for alleged possession of banned Codeine syrup in Kalyan last month in Kalyan in Thane district.
They were arrested by the Bazarpeth police station of Kalyan under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
The suspects were identified as Tousif Asifg Surve (34), a driver from Bazarpeth area of Kalyan in Thane district, Lingraj Aparay Algud (40) from Udaynagar in Kalaburgi and Irfan alias Mohsin Ibrahim Sayyed (34), from Gulbarga.
One of the suspects is considered close to a Congress leader from Kalaburgi.
The arrests were made on 22 June, according to the crime report.
The police petrol team which checked up with them found them to be possessing as many as 120 bottles of Codeine worth Rs 27,000.
The Kalyan police are trying to find out the source of the contraband.
