3 water vending machines in Mangaluru Central Station

The Southern Railways commissioned three water vending machines (WVMs) at Mangaluru Central Railway Station to make purified drinking water available at low costs of Re 1 for 300 ml (refill) and Rs 2 (pet bottle).

KCCI member and Palakkad Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee member M Ahammed Bawa inaugurated the facilities at Platform 1.

Tthe WVMs are an initiative of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). There are there are two units each at Palakkad, Kozhikode, Thalassery and Kannur stations. Three units have been commissioned at Mangaluru Central Railway Station. One more unit will be installed at Mangaluru Junction Railway Station.

The WVMs are fully automated and can filter 500 litres of chilled water per hour. The WVMs will dispense 500 ml water at Rs 3 (refill) and Rs 5 (pet bottle); 1 litre at Rs 5 (refill) and Rs 8 (pet bottle).
