Kalaburagi: The city police have rescued a baby kidnapped from Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) by arresting three women.

The arrested have been identified as Umera Avez Sheikh, Nasreen Banu Abdul Rahim and Fathima Fayaz Sheikh, all residents of Kalaburagi. They had kidnapped the baby of Ramakrishna Ssagar and Kasturi on Monday by entering the hospital in the guise of nurses, Commissioner of Police Sharanappa S D said at a press meet here on Tuesday.

He said that a relative of the accused had no children for the past 6-7 years and guidelines came in the way of adopting a male child. Therefore, they decided to kidnap a baby and made a deal with their relative for Rs 50,000.

The commissioner said that over 800 offices and police constables were involved in the operation to rescue the baby. CCTV camera footages and information provided the local people came in handy, he added.
