The Tunganagar police seized 3,267 detonators and 36 boxes of gelatin sticks near the Shivamogga airport project site at Sogane on the outskirts of the city on Monday evening.

According to police, following the directions from Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, the district administration permitted stone quarrying near the airport site, to ensure that the airport work is not disrupted in any manner.

They had been brought from Chikkaballapur in two vehicles. The team of experts from Mangaluru was expected to arrive in Shivamogga to blast the boulders near the airport site. But they did not come. So, the drivers left the vehicles loaded with explosives and went away.
