Gaining knowledge is the biggest asset in life. The knowledge will help to excel in all walks of life, he remarked.

Patil said people should change their mindset about police and said that the Police Department has chalked out programmes focusing on people-friendly policing.

Yenepoya (Deemed to be) University Vice-Chancellor Dr M Vijaya Kumar said students from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts were presented Academic Excellence Awards on the basis of merit.

Two institutions also received Academic Excellence Awards on the occasion.

“We received 1,043 applications (for the awards). The Award Selection Committee comprising the foundation members selected students based on their merit,” he said.

After receiving the Academi Excellence Award, Fiona Princy Cutinha, a student of St Aloysius College, said such scholarship is a motivation for students.

“My father is a government employee and thus, I am not eligible for any government scholarships. With such scholarships, I am motivated to maintain a good academic record. And such events make my parents proud which in turn inspires me,” she stressed.
