Devotees walk from a pontoon bridge after a deadly stampede before the second 'Shahi Snan'  at the 'Maha Kumbh Mela'

Belagavi: Four people -- two women and two girls from Belagavi-- are said to have suffered injuries in the stampede while on their way for the bathing ritual on the occasion of ‘Mauni Amavasya’ at the Mahakumbh at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

BJP workers Sarojini Naduvinhalli and Kanchan Ghorpade, residents of Vadgaon suburb, along with two girls Megha and Jyoti escaped with injuries in the stampede. They were provided treatment at the hospital at the Mahakumbh venue and are out of danger.

They had left the city three days ago and had reached Prayagraj on Tuesday evening.

Shivaraj Mahilande from Ghataprabha in Gokak said he is safe and took part in the bathing rituals and prayers at the Triveni Sangam during dawn.

People from Belagavi in different groups have been going to Prayagraj since last week. Some travelled by train and flight while some have left in mini buses and other vehicles.
