With the extended deadline for installing emergency doors in luxury buses ending on April 30, the Transport department, on Thursday, launched a drive to check buses plying without the mandatory exit door.

As part of the drive, officials seized over 40 private buses without emergency exit doors  in Majestic and Kalasipalyam areas in Bangalore and a few across the State.

The officials said the drive will continue in the coming days.

The department had earlier announced that no buses would be allowed to ply after April 30, if they had not installed emergency doors.

While bus operators had earlier sought 10 more days to comply with the order, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said the operators had been given more than five months already, to follow the directive.
