As many as 42 students of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management pledged to donate their organs on Wednesday.

“Sahyadri students pledge their organs on occasions like their birthdays or their parents birthdays. This gives them a sense of pride and I can see the joy in them when they get their pledge card,” said Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor.

This initiative has helped them celebrate their special days more meaningfully, Kumar added.

The students registered themselves as donors on the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) portal.

The college under the guidance of its health and counselling centre has taken the initiative to spread awareness and encourage organ donation among students and staff.

Ankith Kumar has motivated 42 students of the college (in one year) to take the pledge to donate organs. He said that nearly 6,300 people die daily; while 83,513 people wait for organs donations.

“As many as 17 people die because they fail to receive an organ transplant every day,” he added.

Sahyadri College has called upon people to join in this noble cause.
