Mangaluru: The 43rd convocation ceremony of Mangalore University witnessed achievements, with exceptional students being honoured for their academic excellence.
Among them, a young woman from a humble background stood out - the daughter of a sweeper, who defied all odds to secure a gold medal through sheer hard work and determination. Another student has secured 650 out of a total 650 marks in the sixth semester of B Com degree examinations conducted by Mangalore University.
The journey of Veekshitha, a gold medal and first rank in Kannada MA at Mangalore University is marked by perseverance and dedication and serves as a beacon of hope for many aspiring students. Overcoming challenges, she has carved her own path to success. Her mother Sujatha, who works as a sweeper at University College in Mangaluru is the lone breadwinner of the family as her father is unwell and had been into daily wage work.
She said, “My teachers at University College where I completed my graduation supported me financially to study. Even at the Mangalore University, teachers were supportive. I want to pursue my career in teaching. Now, I am pursuing BEd and planning to do MEd in the future."
Aradhana Shenoy from MAPS college emerged as topper in sixth semester degree examinations by scoring 650 out of total 650 marks in B Com degree examinations and won three gold medals.
She has completed B Com with Integrated CA and is preparing to write CA intermediate unit 2B in May. Hailing from Panemangalore, Shenoy said that her coaching for CA helped her to score well in exams as the subjects that were taught for CA were in depth in nature. She said she would start from home daily at 6.30 am to reach the college at 8.30 am for attending CA classes till 3.30 pm. Later, from 4.30 pm she would attend B Com classes till 7.30 pm at MAPS evening college and reach home by 9 pm.
“I did not expect three gold medals with a rank. My parents are happy with my success.” Aradhana’s father Vishwanath Shenoy is a businessman and mother Vineetha Shenoy is a home maker.
Anitha Shenoy who secured first rank in Konkani MA is teaching kindergarten students at Sharada School in Mangaluru. “I have put in a lot of effort to complete my MA in Konkani. I wanted to pursue my higher education in my mother tongue, which I have been successful in. My family and school authorities supported me.”
Jyothi Priya who has secured first rank in Tulu is a lecturer at Government First Grade College, Car Street and said that a PG in Tulu helped her to know more on Tulu culture, practices and traditions which in turn will help in teaching her subject in a better way.
