CPM parliamentary party leader Basudev Acharya speaks at a protest rally organised by Dakshina Kannada district committee of the party in front of DC office in Mangalore on Tuesday.

The CPM parliamentary party leader Basudev Acharya has said that the issue of 463 unnatural deaths in Dharmasthala and Ujjire will be raised in Parliament.

“The staggering 463 unnatural deaths, including 95 young women is neither a regional nor a state issue. It is a national one,” Acharya, also a CPM Central committee member pointed while delivering his inaugural address at a protest rally organised by the district committee of the party in front of DC’s office here on Tuesday demanding a CBI inquiry into all unnatural deaths that occurred in and around Dharmasthala since 1985.

“The feudal rule of 16th century is reigning in Dharmasthala. Some affluent are acting as feudal lords placing themselves above the law of the land. They can gang rape and murder hundreds of girls and go scot-free. Thousands of acres of land belonging to downtrodden and Dalits were grabbed by the same forces. Not a single person was apprehended in these cases except putting an insane innocent youth behind bars pertaining to Soujanya rape and murder case,” he alleged.

Lambasting the state government on keeping a blind eye on the barbaric incidents in Dharmasthala, Acharya alleged that in Karnataka, government is only for the rich. “We want justice in each case of unnatural death. CPM will fight till the demand for CBI inquiry covering all unnatural deaths is met with,” he promised.

'Will siege Vidhana     Soudha'

The CPM parliamentary party leader warned that laying siege to Vidhana Soudha also will be considered to force the government for ordering a CBI investigation into all deaths. He claimed that CPM is the only political party to take up the issue in the State.

CPM Central Committee Member U Vasuki who spoke on the occasion remarked that no preachings of Sangh Parivar and Manu is needed in the land of Basavanna. Party State Secretary G V Sriram Reddy, B Madhava, K R Sriyan, Vasanth Achari among others spoke. The two rallies were kicked off on November 21 from Dharmasthala and Sulliya and culminated in front of DC's office on Tuesday. The protest witnessed participation of hundreds of women.
