On Saturday, 22 sheep from the herd belonging to Pomappa Lamani died and 25 of them died the following day. The veterinary doctors have sent the blood and swab samples collected from the nostrils of the carcass to the lab for examination.

"The sheep have shown signs of anthrax. The samples have been sent to the lab in Bagalkot. We have procured anti-anthrax vaccines from there and administered them to sheep and cattle in Sevanagar and surrounding areas," Dr Ningappa Olekar, taluk veterinary doctor, told reporters.
