Five government counsels Veerappa B, Pawan Kumar Bhajantri, Narendra Guha, Sujatha S and Dinesh Kumar P S were sworn in additional High Court judges on Friday.
Chief Justice D H Waghela administered the oath in presence of several High Court judges, senior counsels and H C Shivaram, President, Advocates Association, Bangalore. Padma Prasad Hegde, Chairman, Karnataka State Bar Council welcomed the new judges.
The High Court has been witnessing a spree of retirement of judges since mid-2013.
Accordingly, Justices V Jagannathan, Ajit Gunjal, H N Nagamohan Das, H S Kempanna, B S Indrakala, K N Keshavnarayana, Jawad Rahim and most recently Justice K Bhakthavatsala retired from service. Justice Dilip Bhosale was transferred from the High Court of Karnataka and there was no replacement to them.
To add to the woes of the advocates and the litigants, one of the judges, Justice Govindaraju died in a road accident. The appointment was pending since then.
