50 injured after private bus topples near Hassan

More than 50 passengers of a private bus sustained injuries after the bus toppled into a paddy field near Ullenahalli on the Hassan-Madikeri road, here, on Monday.

The accident brings back horrific memories of the
tragedy in which 30 lives were snuffed out after a private
bus plunged into Visvesvaraya Canal in Karaganamaradi of Pandavapura taluk, Mandya district, on Saturday.

The private bus ‘Swamy’, carrying 55 passengers, was bound for Athni in Arakalgud taluk from Herur, near
Harangi, in Kodagu district for a marriage reception.

The bus toppled leaving the passengers injured.

According to sources, six persons sustained severe
injuries while the condition of a woman is said to be serious.

According to sources present at the spot, the driver lost control of the
vehicle in a bid to avoid a motorcycle hitting the bus.

A few local people, who noticed the toppled bus, rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers.

The injured were shifted to the taluk and district
hospitals, sources said.
