Six people, including five labourers, were killed in a head-on collision between an MUV and a truck on Vijayapura-Hubballi state highway near Honaganahalli in the taluk on Tuesday night, reports DHNS from Vijayapura.
The victims, natives of Maharashtra, were travelling in a Mahindra Bolero to a work site on the highway. According to the Babaleshwar police, Vikas Vilas Suryavamshi (29), the jeep driver, Mustafa Mangarula, Gajanana Dhone, Toufique Syed and Abbas Patel were killed on the spot. Mehboob Syed died at the hospital, and Muneer Abbas Syed is being treated at the District Hospital.
The accident occurred when the Bolero driver tried to overtake a vehicle. A speeding lorry coming in the opposite direction rammed into the jeep.
