ICG assists Singapore-flagged container vessel after blast

Mangaluru: The Indian Navy vessel INS Surat, carrying 18 rescued crew members from the fire-struck Singapore-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503, arrived at New Mangalore Port (NMP), Panambur on Monday late night.

Of the rescued 18 members, two are critically injured and four have minor injuries. The severely injured ones are Lu Yanli from China and Sonitur Haeni from Indonesia. Others with minor injuries are Xu Fabao from China, Guo Linino from China, Thein Than Htay from Myanmar and Kyi Zaw Htoo from Myanmar. All the six injured have been shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment. Twelve other rescued crew have been shifted to a hotel safely in Mangaluru, said sources in police.

The MV Wan Hai 503, enroute from Colombo to Mumbai, caught fire on Monday approximately 78 nautical miles off the Beypore coast, Kerala. On responding to the distress call, the Indian Navy's INS Surat successfully rescued 18 out of the 22 crew members onboard. Out of those rescued - 8 are from China, 4 from Taiwan, 4 from Myanmar and 2 from – Indonesia.
