Chikkodi (Belagavi district): More than 80 students of Morarji Desai Residential School from Hirekodi village in Chikkodi taluk suffered from food poisoning after having breakfast on Friday.

They have been admitted at government hospital at Chikkodi town for treatment.

As soon as the students complained of vomiting, stomach pain, unease in breathing and other symptoms after having breakfast, they were shifted in ambulances and cabs to the hospitals.

A total of 37 boys have been admitted at taluk hospital, 33 girls in maternity and child hospital, 3 boys and 7 girls in other hospitals.

‘Signs of recovery’

Students were showing signs of recovery and a girl whose condition was serious has been shifted to Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences District Hospital for treatment.

State Representative to New Delhi-2 and MLC Prakash Hukkeri visited the hospital and inquired health of the students. He allayed their fears and assured them of support during the treatment.

Hukkeri visited the hostel and took the staff to task and directed them to maintain hygiene in the premises.
