Mangaluru: As a part of the initiative to make "Drug-free Mangaluru," the City Crime Branch (CCB) personnel successfully carried out an operation to arrest an individual smuggling and selling ganja. The police have recovered 6.7 kg of ganja from the arrested.

According to Commissioner of Police, Anupam Agrawal, the accused has been identified as Akhilesh (30) from Ambalpadi in Udupi. He was procuring ganja from Mumbai to Mangaluru for selling it among public and students in Mulki and surrounding areas. The value of the seized ganja is Rs 1.62 lakh. In addition, the police have recovered a mobile phone and Rs 660 cash. The total value of the seized property is Rs 1.63 lakh. A case has been registered at Mulki station in this regard.

Agrawal said the arrested reportedly purchased ganja in Mumbai, traveled to Mangaluru by train, and sold it to the public and students to make quick profits. He engaged in this illegal activity to fund a lavish lifestyle. The suspect has a history of criminal activities, with six cases registered against him including theft case in Mangaluru East Police Station, NDPS case at Malpe police station, assault case in Hiriyadka police station, drug consumption case at CEN station in Udupi.

The operation was led by ACP Manoj Kumar Naik, with the support of Inspector Shyam Sundar HM, PSI Sudeep MV, ASI Rama Poojary, Sheenappa, and other CCB personnel.
