7 arrested for cattle theft

Sakharayapattana police have arrested seven men on the charges of trafficking cattle illegally.

The accused men were identified as Sabinandan, Rahim, Amit, Sharif, Shekhara Naika, Hema G Naika and Salim.

They were arrested at Machagondanahalli check-post. An amount of Rs 35,000 cash, which they had collected after selling 16 cows, two goods carriers and weapons used for the crime were seized from the accused.

Six cases had been registered against the accused in Chikkamagaluru. All the accused men were remanded to judicial custody after being produced in a local court.

Two assaulted

Following an argument over collecting drinking water, a couple was assaulted in Ellambalase in Kadur on Tuesday.

When Sheikh Ansar was collecting drinking water from a tap, his neighbours Hazmat Ulla, Muhammed Ahmed Khan and three others allegedly assaulted Ansar and his wife Shamim Banu.

Both sustained injuries and are availing treatment in a government hospital in Kadur. A complaint was registered in Yagati police station.
