7 killed in separate accidents

As many as seven persons including four of a family were killed in two separate accidents in the district on Monday.

A Tata Indica car rammed a tamarind tree killing four of a family near Kellodu village in Hosadurga taluk.

Police have identified the deceased as Mahadevamma (60), Suresh (60), Manjula (40) and Mruthyunjaya (61), all residents of VISL Extension in Bhadravathi of Shivamogga district. Sheelamani (55) and Likitha (16) were injured in the accident.

All the six were returning home after visiting Siddarameshwara temple in Yalanodu village. Police said the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving. Hosadurga police have registered a case.

In another accident, three persons were killed on the spot after the multiutility vehicle (MUV) they were travelling hit a parked lorry on  near Kasturirangappanahalli Gate in Hiriyur taluk on National Highway-4. Sadiq (35), Naved (32) and Amjad Pasha, all from Bengaluru were travelling from Hubballi to Bengaluru when the accident occurred.

The MUV was reduced to heap of metal due to the impact of the collision. Hiriyur Rural police have registered a case.
