Madikeri: 70,000 copies of Heart Lamp have been reprinted in the last two months, said Deepa Bhasthi, winner of the International Booker award, commenting on her work, translated from Banu Mushtaq's original, written in Kannada.

She was speaking during an interactive programme organised by Kodagu district working journalists' association in Madikeri on Sunday.

"In an online shopping platform, the work topped in all sections for continuous three weeks. Demand has been pouring in from all over," she said.

Bhasthi said that permission has been given to translate the work into Malayalam, Assamese and Oriya languages and requests from other languages have been coming in too.

"In Kannada, the field of translation needs to grow much more. Works in Kannada should be translated to other languages and vice versa. Compared to translated works in other regional languages in India, there are less translated works in Kannada," she said, reacting to a query.
