Mangaluru: Mangaluru city police have made comprehensive arrangements for peaceful new year celebrations in the city commissionerate limits.
Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said that a detailed bandobast plan has been planned to manage crowd safety, regulate traffic, and maintain law and order. A total of 804 personnel will be deployed with three DCPs, eight ACPs, 20 inspectors, 57 PSIs, 76 ASIs, 570 head constables and constables, 70 Home Guards.
He said that 49 New Year programmes across the city have received permissions. Police personnel will be deployed to maintain safety at these venues. To ensure the safety of citizens and deter anti-social elements, 103 picket points have been set up at vital locations and 19 barricade points will monitor and regulate vehicle movements while keeping an eye on notorious activities.
Sixty sector mobiles, headed by PSIs, will patrol all areas within Mangaluru City Police jurisdiction to ensure seamless law enforcement and quick response to incidents. Flying squads, headed by PSIs, comprising 30 teams, will focus on curbing drug peddling, consumption, and other illegal activities under the city's zero-tolerance policy.Quick-response teams, including 3 KSRP platoons and 10 CAR parties, have been stationed at strategic locations to handle emergencies effectively. Eight drunken driving checkpoints have been set up, he added.
A special team, headed by 1 ACP, 2 PIs, and 6 PSIs, will be deployed from 1 am till 6 am to act as night round officers. This team will ensure proper monitoring late into the night and up to the early morning hours, supplementing the existing Bandobast. Further, the commissioner said that 22 ERSS patrol vehicles will also be on rounds 24x7 to provide immediate assistance in emergencies. All New Year celebrations must conclude by 12 midnight, he added.
