"Every President has tried to tackle the enormous challenge of reforming our health care system," said Dr Vinod K Shah, the president of AAPI.

"Today marks a historic move forward in the right direction. It is simply not acceptable that more than 30 million people in our nation must choose between enduring great financial hardship to pay for their health care or forgo their insurance," he said.

This bill will provide hard-working American families the opportunity to plan for their economic future and will literally save lives, Dr Shah said in a release issued today.
"On behalf of AAPI, I would like to commend President Barack Obama for securing passage of his signature legislation. We look forward to working with the President and Congress on other legislative issues important to AAPI such as medical malpractice reform, increasing residency slots and providing for a permanent fix to the Medicare sustainable growth rate formula," he said.

The US House of Representatives passed the health care reform bill by a vote margin of 219-212 late Sunday night and then passed a reconciliation bill amending the original legislation by a margin of 220-211. The reconciliation bill now only needs 51 votes to pass in the Senate. Obama sign the legislation into law on Tuesday
