Sudeep Charitable Trust of popular actor Sudeep has adopted a village and four government schools in Sagar taluk of the district.
Aavige village and schools functioning at Halasasi, ML Halli, and S N Nagar have been adopted. The trust has decided to develop the village and improve infrastructure in the schools of four villages.
Aavige village attached to Karur gram panchayat is on the border of the Udupi district with most of the villagers belonging to Kunabi tribal community residing in Shivamogga. There are 27 houses in the village and around 157 people are living in the village. As many as 13 students are enrolled in the government primary school in the village. The majority of villagers are not educated. They visit various parts of the State seeking work to earn their livelihood.
The village adoption programme is likely to be held in March and the trust aims to improve infrastructure in the schools and introduce the smart class facility for students. The trust decided to provide all facilities for the school to ensure that rural students are not deprived of any facility that would hinder their studies.
Initially, the actor decided to adopt the school and later, he decided to adopt the entire village.
