The High Court on Thursday has warned the State government that it might be forced to restrain admissions to PU colleges which do not have adequate infrastructure as per the rule 4 (2) of Karnataka Education Act, which specifies rules that a junior college should be set up in at least 25,000 sq feet area.
Hearing a petition by Chandrashekar Aramani from Dharwad, who had moved the Court against Chougale Group of Institutes which is running a PU college on just 2,600 sq feet area, stating that it is a violation of the Act. The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen has warned the government that, “the colleges which are not complying with the rules may be restrained from admitting students from next academic year.”
The government on Thursday submitted that 600 such colleges existed in the State and said that it was willing to amend the rules. The respondents, Chougale college, stated that they will be shifting to another building with larger space, but questioned why only they are being targeted.
