Members of advocates association Bangalore and senior advocates staging a protest against the proposal of sudden and abrupt transfer of Karnataka High Court Judges

Bengaluru: The members of the Advocates Association of Bengaluru (AAB) on Tuesday held a protest against the transfer of four judges of the Karnataka high court.
The protest was held outside the Golden Gate of the Karnataka high court.
The collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, in its April 15 and 19 meeting had recommended the transfer of seven high court judges, including four from the Karnataka high court.
As per the recommendation, judges from the Karnataka high court Justice Hemanth Chandanagoudar will be transferred to the Madras High Court, Justice Krishna Natarajan to Kerala, Justice Neranahalli Srinivasan Sanjay Gowda to Gujrat and Justice Krishna Dixit to the Orissa high court.
Several senior advocates took part in the protest outside the Golden Gate. Former Advocate General BV Acharya said that there is a close connection between the transfer of judges and the language. While those judges transferred to Karnataka find it difficult to adjust to the language requirements, the four judges from Karnataka high court, who have been transferred to other high courts, would similarly find it difficult to adjust, he said.
“While we promote use of Kannada at all levels in the lower judiciary, the decision to bring judges from outside would hamper the work efficiency on the aspect of providing translation in court cases in the high court,” BV Acharya said.
AAB president Vivek Subba Reddy said that four judges of the Karnataka high court have been singled out for transfer in the entire country. The AAB said that a representation will be sent to the President, the Chief Justice of India and others seeking withdrawal of the transfers.
