Bengaluru: The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has instructed all its affiliated colleges to mandatorily and prominently install CCTV cameras at their campuses.
Following the directions from the Department of Higher Education, the university has issued a circular asking all the colleges to follow the guidelines. As mentioned in the circular, the measure was aimed at curbing illegal activities like usage of drugs and other narcotics at the campuses and also to prevent ragging and sexual haraassment.
"In order to protect the interest of students and also to refrain them from indulging in anti-social activities, the colleges must take measures to install CCTV cameras at prominent places on the campuses and monitor activities of the students regularly," the circular stated.
The university has also directed the colleges to appoint a counsellor to counsel students who are victims of anti-social activities and addicted to narcotics. Colleges have also been asked to install display boards at prominent places.
