Belagavi: The Karnataka Cabinet on Friday is said to have decided to revamp the scam-hit Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) on the lines of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).

The Mysuru Development Authority Bill was cleared by the Cabinet, sources said.

The new planning agency will not have lawmakers on its board, sources said.

At present, MLAs from Mysuru get to sit on the MUDA board.

One minister, who did not want to be identified, said the “root cause” of MUDA’s problems was interference by MLAs.

The Cabinet decision is significant as it comes at a time when Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is facing a court-ordered investigation for alleged Irregularities in the allotment of MUDA plots to his wife Parvathi.

In another decision, the Cabinet is said to have cleared amendments to the Code of Civil Procedure, which includes holding daily hearings in view of over nine lakh civil disputes pending.

The much-touted Karnataka Platform-based Gig Workers (Social Security and Welfare) Bill was deferred again. Apparently, the Congress government wants to obtain the views of the party’s top brass before going ahead.

It is learnt that the Cabinet discussed a new policy for water transport development. Also, revised cost estimates of ₹471 crore under the union government’s Sagarmala project.
