Zilla Panchayat Chief Ravi Kushalappa has warned to take action against the officials who fail to carry out their duty efficiently in connection with taking necessary precautionary measures to avert wide spread damage during rainy season.
Addressing the meeting on natural disaster management on Thursday, he said that the Deputy Commissioner and Tahshildar need not take all the responsibilities. The problems at the grassroots level may be solved by the local officials taking help of the local residents. These officials may bring the incidents to the notice of the higher ups.
“There is no dearth of funds at all. The Government will release the funds required to provide compensation for rain damages,” he said adding that no victim should cry for help.
He told that since coffee planters incur huge losses due to excess rains and falling of trees, Coffee Board has to come to their rescue.
In charge Deputy Commissioner K M Chandregowda said that both Agriculture and Horticulture Departments should become pro-active and try to disburse compensation to farmers for crop loss during monsoon, at the earliest.
The DC asked the officials to send him a report on the measures taken up by them to handle adverse situation during monsoon, their recommendations to the departments concerned and the works done in this regard by them so far.
He directed the Women and Child Welfare officer to see to it that the Anganwadis are given holidays during heavy rains, to ensure safety of little children.
“The meeting of elected representatives and the public must be convened at hobli level to list out the local problems. The Tahshildars and the Executive Officers of Taluk Panchayats should strive to respond and solve those problems,” the DC said adding that taluk level meetings should be held weekly.
Zilla Panchayat CEO N Krishnappa said that the district is receiving good rains and Harangi reservoir is almost full. The level of water in KRS dam is also encouraging. But at the same time the people living on the river bed need to be taken care because they are often at threat because of floods.
Deputy Conservator of Forest Anand assured to clear off the trees falling on the roads, at the earliest. He said that private boats have been kept ready to help the residents, in case of floods at Dubare.
He said that during landslides etc, the co-operation from local officials is not encouraging. There is a need to bring in better co-ordination.
Chescom Executive Engineer Diwakar said that during this monsoon 500 damaged electricity poles have been replaced.
As many as 25 transformers were spoilt, of which 23 have been replaced. Officials from Education Department, Fire Officers, Police personnel, officials from Women and Child Welfare Department etc were present.
