All set for counting of GP votes

The district administration has tightened up the security towards the counting of votes of Gram Panchayat elections, to be held today at St Joseph’s School in Virajpet and Government Junior College in Somvarpet.

The counting process will start today at 8 am. 34 counting tables has been put up with respect to Madikeri taluk and each table will have three counting staff.

46 counting tables have been put up for Virajpet taluk, with a supervisor and two assistants for each table.  Similarly, 58 tables have been reserved for counting and the number of staff is 174, comprising of supervisors and assistants, in Somvarpet taluk.

A total of 138 tables and 414 staff have been deployed for the three taluks put together.

Today’s counting will decide the fate of candidates in 26 Gram Panchayats in Madikeri, 36 Gram Panchayats in Virajpet and 40 Gram Panchayats in Somvarpet.

A total of 449 election constituencies exist in the district, comprising 33 one-membered, 148 two-membered, 188 three-membered, 74 four-members and 6 five-membered constitutencies.

Nominations weren’t been filed for three among 1,219 seats in 102 Gram Panchayats and 83 members have been elected unanimously.

The elections were held for the remaining 1,133 seats. A total of 3,144 candidates were in fray.
