'All should be committed to protect Constitution'

Home Minister M B Patil said that all of us should be committed to protect the Constitution.

The minister was speaking after inaugurating the Bishop's House, Seminary of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church Diocese of Puttur at Panjala on Monday.

Patil said, “Ambedkar and Nehru wanted equal opportunities for all and a secular system in the country. All the aspirations of Basavanna, Swami Vivekananda and Prophet Mohammed are imbibed in the Constitution. Changing the Constitution is like removing the heart.”

Speaking further, he reminded, “We all have a responsibility to not merely love our own religions but also respect other religions.”

He said the commitment and service mindset can be seen in Christianity.

Syro Malankara Catholic Church Major Archbishop Baselios Cheemis Catholicos said that all the citizens should be committed to serve the nation.

Archbishop Rev Dr Peter Macchado said, “We, Christians, are Indians and will always uphold the values propagated by the Constitution.”
