The popular irrigation project and tourist centre, Almatti dam, is now ready to break records for flaunting the world’s biggest metal signboard.

The installation work is in progress to get the metal letters up on the concrete patch on the left side of the dam structure. Preparations are also in progress to make it to the Guinness Book of Records and the Limca Book of Records. The Almatti dam has been named ‘Lal Bahadur Shastri Sagara’ and the metal signboard says the same. Every letter in the name is about 5 meters to 7.5 meters tall and 5 meters to 10 meters wide and are three dimensional. The complete signboard is 112 meters long.

The metal letters that are clearly visible from almost four kilometres away were made in Pune by the Bucket Designs Company at the cost of Rs 50  lakh. About 25 workers with the help of a crane are busy with the installation. About 18 LED lights of 60 watt capacity are also being installed to make sure the sign is visible in the night. The gigantic signboard will be completed in fifteen days. The letters are installed using framework steel and aluminium composite panel mixed with iron to ensure the sun and rains do not harm the metal, said Assistant Engineer of Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Ltd (KBJNL) Narendra. Mumbai’s documentary and TV show director Makarand Brahma is filming a 15-minute documentary on the making of the world’s largest signboard in association with the company that procured the tender.

The company has already sent applications to the Guinness Book of Records and the Limca Book of Records. They say that the signboard will make two records in the months to come.

Before the letters were manufactured, a trial signboard was prepared on a flex which was put up on the dam to decide the size of the letters. The signboard will be yet another feather in the Almatti dam’s cap.
