Anti Stabbing Squads formed to frisk those carrying knives, swords in BelagaviCity Police has formed Anti Stabbing Squads after an incident of a student being stabbed by two minors over window seat in the city bus came to the fore on Wednesday.

Belagavi: Carrying or displaying knives to threaten or stab as well as swords and similar weapons in the city would result in those involved in the acts being booked under the provisions of Arms Act and rowdy sheet being opened in their names.

City Police has formed Anti Stabbing Squads after an incident of a student being stabbed by two minors over window seat in the city bus came to the fore on Wednesday. The squad will keep a tab on such activities.

Anti Stabbing Squads have been checking bags of youths including students and vehicles of all suspects.

Youth including minors carrying knives in their pockets to swords and other such weapons in vehicles have become a matter of concern. Incidents like some anti-social elements displaying swords at public places have become rampant.

Recently a person who was displaying sword near railway tracks at Gandhi Nagar to instill fear among the people in the city was arrested by the Mal-Maruti police.

Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase informed that City Police wants to prevent people from carrying knives and swords with them. "We are forming Anti Stabbing Squads and each team will have five to six persons who will frisk suspects and the vehicles."

" If any weapon is found with people, they will be booked under the provisions of Arms Act and also rowdy sheet will be opened against them which will result in them having to report to the police stations during all the festivals," he said.

Afsar Abdul Bashir Shaikh resident of Mulla Galli, New Gandhi Nagar was arrested near Sambra bridge when he was carrying sharp weapons in his scooter on Sunday. His vehicle was seized and he has been booked under the provisions of Arms Act.

Manju Yallappa Seetimani resident of Valmiki Galli, Majgaon was arrested while he was carrying a sword and a woodcutter which could have been used to harm others.

Rowdysheeter Rahul Jyotiba Jadhav was arrested near Shahu Nagar by the squad while he was carrying 2.20 gram heroin during the checkup of the vehicles. He has been booked under the provisions of NDPS Act.
