Kalaburagi: A gang of four armed robbers barged into a goldsmith’s workshop brandishing weapons and looted 800 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 50-60 lakh in Saraf Bazar here on Friday afternoon.
The masked robbers entered the shop situated at the first floor of a complex in the crowded Saraf Bazar, and threatened the goldsmith Moti at gunpoint.
They tied up the goldsmith, gagged him with a tape before fleeing with gold ornaments worth Rs 50-60 lakh. The robbery was caught on CCTV cameras installed in the workshop.
Five special teams have been constituted to nab the robbers, Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner Sharanappa S D told reporters.
Forensic experts
The dacoits were also wearing caps along with the mask. The sniffer dog, fingerprint experts and forensic experts have collected the information after thorough inspection of the workshop.
Meanwhile, the adjacent shop owners claimed that they rushed to the shop when its owner started screaming and saw his hands and legs tied.
The incident has triggered a panic among the traders in the area. They urged the police to nab the robbers and take up measures to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
The Brahmapur police station officials have registered a case and investigation is underway.
