Bidar, Karnataka: Bike-borne two armed robbers shot dead the State Bank of India security guard near the deputy commissioner's office here on Thursday. Another person is seriously injured in the gun fire.

The masked men fled with Rs 93 lakh cash after opening fire at the two security personnel who were offloading cash from the van to deposit in the ATM.

The deceased has been identified as Girish. The assailants arrived on a bike and threw chilli powder into the eyes of the security guards and opened fire before fleeing from the venue with the cash. 

District Police Superintendent Pradeep Gunti and other senior officials rushed to the venue.

The District In-charge Minister Eshwar Khandre has directed the police officials to take urgent measures to arrest the robbers. He also said that an investigation will be conducted into lapses that occurred as security personnel should have been deployed while shifting the cash to the ATM.

The minister expressed condolences over the death of the staff in the shooting.
