Speaking after inaugurating ‘Kalyan Karnataka Media Festival-2025’ organised by the Information and Public Relations Department, Karnataka Media Academy and Sharnbasva University here on Monday, he said that no one should forget that artificial intelligence is a creation of humans.

Stating that the media needs to work very carefully if the three pillars of democracy which are the legislature, executive and judiciary have to move in the right direction, he said that students would attain perfection and have the courage to ask questions only when they gain knowledge from books.

“KKRDB has launched several schemes like Akshara Avishkar and Arogya Avishkar for the overall development of the Kalyan Karnataka region. Its results can be seen in the coming days. The Board will discuss with the CM giving incentives to small newspapers through advertisements”, he said.

‘Unique contribution’

Sharanabasaveshwara Vidyavardhak Sangh president Dr Dakshayini Avva said that the contribution of media to the development of the region before and after the independence has been unique. Karnataka Media Academy Chairperson Ayesha Khanum said that the Academy has been offering apprenticeship training to female journalism students under SCP-TSP and gender ratio grants. But, not too many candidates from the region have applied for it.

They should shun the inferiority complex and make use of the various benefits, she said.

“We are planning to digitalise the Academy. The annual award amount being given by the Academy has been increased. We are also contemplating taking measures for the development of small newspapers and improving the professional skills among the reports of the rural areas”, she said.

Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Taranum said media is the mirror of society and journalists have a significant responsibility to deliver news, art, culture, history and real events happening every day around the world to the public.

‘Crucial issues neglected’

Koppal University Vice-Chancellor Prof B K Ravi said that the media has been giving more importance to entertainment news, while development and socially oriented news is being neglected.

Pointing out that the number of malnourished children is on the rise in the state and social evils like child marriage are rampant, he said that the media needs to give priority to socially oriented news.

Sharnbasva University Vice-Chancellor Dr Anilkumar Bidve, Registrar Dr S G Dollegowdar, Information and Public Relations Department Joint Director Manjunatha Dollin and others were present.
