Artistes enthral audience at 'Huggi Suggi'

Zilla Panchayat vice president Sheela Shetty has said that rural India is the hub of rich culture and traditional practices with every celebration being unique and rustic in purpose.

Speaking after inaugurating 'Huggi Suggi', organised by the District Kannada and Culture Department, Shetty said that agricultural activities are closely associated with the rural tradition. "It is sad that the vanishing farm culture has also affected the culture and traditional practices in villages. Youths are migrating to urban areas on a large scale. The unique culture and practices are becoming extinct," she regretted.

As many as 20 teams displayed colourful folk performances. Folk dances like 'Kangeelu Nritya', 'Kolata', 'Shardula Nritya' 'Kudubi Nritya', 'Kangilu' 'Kansale Kunita' 'Suggi Kunita', 'Veeragase, 'Dollu Kunita', 'Nagari', 'Pooja Kunita', 'Koragara Nritya' were among other performances displayed on the occasion.

Traditional delicacies like Ragi laddu and payasam were served on the occasion.
