Belagavi: Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Lalsab Miranayak appointed for bandobast duty for the Sri Mahalaxmi Devi fair at Gokak town in Karnataka's Belagavi died due to heart attack on Saturday.

Miranayak (56) from Hubballi-Dharwad City Police and attached to APMC Police Station Hubballi had been deployed for bandbast duty for the fair.

Superintendent of Police Dr Bheemashankar Guled grieved the untimely death of the police personnel who had come for his duty.

Car festivals of the deity organised in different parts of the town had led to police personnel being deployed in large numbers for maintaining law and order and also to facilitate traffic movement.

Many of them were to be relived from the duty on Saturday.
