Awards for scouts, guides

It was a day of recognition for Scouts and Guides in the State.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Karnataka presented Chathurtha Charan, Heerak Pankh and Rajya Puraskar certificates to Cubs, Bulbuls, Scouts and Guides across the State at an award ceremony in Raj Bhavan, on Tuesday. 

Addressing a gathering, the State Chief Commissioner Kondajji B Shanmukhappa said the Scouts and Guides movement needs to be accelerated further as it has been able to cover only 10 per cent of the school population in the State.

G Kumar Naik, Secretary, Primary and Secondary Education said the Scouts and Guides help shape students’ personality.  Students who participate in the Scouts and Guides develop skills to tackle any situation, making them more capable than others in tackling difficulties. He asked schools to encourage more students to enrol for the Scouts and Guides.

Governor H R Bhardwaj, who as a student was a part of the movement, recalled how participating in it made him a stronger person.

Brinda S and Sindhu G K of Stella Maris who received Rajyapuraskar certificates told Deccan Herald that they are now a confident individuals. “We learned to mingle with other students and that is where it makes a difference,” says Brinda while Sindhu feels that Guides inculcates leadership qualities in them, helping them to perform better in school as well.

A total of 395 Cubs received Chathurtha Charan certificates, 752 Bulbuls awarded Heerak Pankh, Rajya Puraskar for 875 Scouts and Rajya Puraskar for 832 Guides.
