Balanjaneya temple to get faceliftThe blueprint for renovation has been prepared at a cost of `1.23 crore

The Balanjaneya temple situated in front of Sri Omkareshwara temple is 800-years-old. The temple which was in deplorable condition will be renovated at a cost of Rs 1.23 crore. An action plan for the renovation has been prepared.

The renovation work will commence from October 24. The shrine is one of the oldest temple in the State. It was built during the reign of Cholas. The rain water was entering the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

The department of religious endowment has taken up the work on renovating the temple. Accordingly, Sri Omkareshwara temple committee has prepared an action plan for the same.
Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah is the honorary president of the committee and District-in-Charge Minister M P Appachu Ranjan is president.

The temple will be built using marble. The action plan has been prepared for sanctum sanctorum, ‘naivedya kotadi,’ ‘theerthabhavi,’ quarters for priest and other basic facilities.

The blueprint has been prepared by sculptor from Puttur Vysaraya. The work on sanctum sanctorum has been handed over to Sri Vidyabharathi Vedik Architect of Sringeri. The work is likely to be completed within a year. Urban project director of PWD Sathyanarayana Rao will be the technical advisor.

Temple committee member Chi Na Somesh said “the government will release Rs 1.23 crore for the temple. The renovation work will need additional money. The devotees can donate money for the purpose.”
