Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S has clamped prohibitory order under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) across the district till the midnight of November 11.

The clamping of prohibitory orders, which came into force with immediate effect, was based on a report submitted by City Police Commissioner and Superintendent of Police. The report anticipated that BJP and other saffron organisations, opposing Tipu jayanti, would pose a hurdle to the celebrations at Nethravathi Hall of Zilla Panchayat in Mangaluru.

Accordingly, assembly of five or more persons, holding of public meetings, jatha, processions, and carrying of firearms is prohibited during the period.
