Shivamogga: The 93rd birth anniversary of former chief minister late S Bangarappa will be held at Bangaradhama in Sorab town in the district today. 

Addressing media persons here on Saturday, Bangarappa Vichara Vedike president Venugopal Nayak said the Bangaradhama, the burial place of S Bangarappa and Shakuntala couple, has been attractively designed as per the dream of District In-charge Minister Madhu S Bangarappa.

He said the state government has identified it as a tourist spot. Therefore, this year’s celebration of Bangarappa’s birth anniversary is special, he added. Nayak said the ‘Bangara’ awards will be presented to distinguished achievers in various fields, including writer Kalegowda Nagavara, Bengaluru-based charitable institution Gubbi Thotadappa Dharmashala, Chowdike artiste Radhabai Madara and theatre artiste Jewargi Rajanna.

Ministers K H Muniyappa, Santosh Lad, and veteran Congress leader R V Deshpande will present the award.

MLA Belur Gopalakrishna, Joint Managing Director of The Printers Mysore Limited K N Tilak Kumar and Karnataka Nataka Academy President K V Nagaraja Murthy will attend the event. Madhu Bangarappa, who is also the school education and literacy minister, will preside over the event, he said. He said that a symposium on Bangarappa’s thoughts and the Alva’s Samskruthika Vaibhava will also be held on the same day.
