Members of the various organisations carried out demonstrations in front of the Canara Bank Regional Office near Hampankatta and near the Karnataka Bank at Kodialbail.

All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) Joint Secretary P R Karanth addressing the gathering said that the government has given assurance in the Parliament to conciliate with the demands. “An indefinite strike will be called, if our demands were not met,” he said adding that the UFBU will meet again in this regard on August 11.

The strike was organised to urge the Indian Banks Association (IBA) for an early settlement on the wage revision demand, which is pending since November, 2007. IBA went back on their offer of 17.5 per cent wage increase and currently assure only 13 per cent increase. Similarly, IBA also had refused to offer the existing pension scheme to be extended to remaining employees who are in PF scheme. Karanth told Deccan Herald that the strike was totally successful in the district.
