Bannanje Babu Amin Janapada Award presented in Udupi

Accepting the ‘Bannanje Babu Amin Janapada Award’ conferred on him by Nittur Kemmalaje Janapda Prakashana on Sunday, he said that folklore and folkart have euphoric sense in them.

“People should be lovers of culture and not slaves of culture. There is lot of difference between religious norms and superstition. Superstition is a social evil and hence it should be discarded,” he said.

Home Minister Dr V S Acharya released the book ‘Tulunadina Daivagalu’ of Folklorist Bannanje Babu Amin and later presented the awards. He said that youth should develop interest towards folkart.

“There is a need to provide additional impetus to study of coastal folk culture. Ever individual should develop interest towards local culture sop as to safeguard it,” he said. He informed that text books for tulu to be introduced as optional subject from 6th standard is being prepared while all efforts are being made to include Tulu in 8th Schedule of the constitution. Folk artist Kargi Nalike was also conferred ‘Bannanje Babu Amin Janapada Award’.

Kannada Sahithya Parishat President Ambathanaya Mudradi, Entrepreneur Pramod Madwaraj and others were present.
