Raitha Hitarakshana Samiti president G Madegowda on Sunday asked one person from each household to be ready to go to jail for the sake of Cauvery water. However, he said a final decision on the future course of agitation will be taken after the Supreme Court’s order on Monday.

He was speaking after visiting the protesters, who were staging relay hunger strike near Visvesvaraya statue here, opposing release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Madegowda said it was a matter of pride to go to jail fighting for the State’s water right.

He expressed hope that the SC’s order would be in favour of Karnataka. However, Madegowda urged people to be prepared for massive agitation if the order went against it.
“An agitation to stop students from going to schools and colleges and government employees from working, needs to be launched to pressure the State government,” he added.

The Bangalore-Mysore State Highway was blocked at Mandya, Srirangapatna, Gejjalagere and Maddur even on Sunday. Various organisations and many villagers through padayatra extended support to the agitation. A bus was pelted with stones at Moggarahalli in Srirangapatna taluk.
